DETAILED ITINERARY: Day 5 -
Sunday
SABBATH IN SANTA ELENA - FLORES
We will join the St. Elena Branch in their
Priesthood, Relief Society, Sunday School and Sacrament Meetings. The
branch welcomes us doing this. We have our earphones on with
translators, so we can actually participate. We get pulled into the
service having practiced a song in Spanish during the preceding days on
the tour. After Sacrament meeting we cross the Calm Lake by the Hotel to
have a catered picnic lunch at an outdoor ecological zoo. Afterwards we
can rest or we can volunteer to do service. This means visiting the
poor, sick and disabled in nearby villages. This becomes a very hands-on
Sabbath by meeting the people . . . Being the Messengers of Good News .
. . bringing things that we have brought along or that Paco brought
along that Guatemalans have made under his direction. For example, in a
previous tour we brought a wooden cart for a legless shoemaker (made in
Guatemala City). When we delivered it to him, he became like a child
with a new toy. He immediately crawled into his new cart and turned the
pedals conveniently rebuilt to be driven by his arms and hands. He
pedaled down the street. The town was excited to see that the shoemaker
was out and about, able to do business with his customers in town. We
have a Humanitarian Opportunity while on the tour for those interested.
Many from the tour will bring used wheelchairs or other items which
result in special personal memories. This is a Wonderful Sunday/ Sabbath
Service to the peoples of Guatemala and to the Lord. Many have said that
this is the best day of the tour. Heartfelt service in a beautiful
setting with great natural surrounding and wildlife creates a very
peaceful and a Wonderful Sabbath Rest.
