DETAILED ITINERARY:  Day 7 - Tuesday
FLORES TO BELIZE

Close by the Hotel is the Flores airport. It will take a little time to fill out a request to enter Belize and pay the money . . . oh yes, another Government collects "donations!" You will need about thirty U.S. dollars. Here is where you need the two Guatemalan stamped documents you got arriving at the Guatemala City airport. A short (45-minute) Morning Flight from Flores to Belize is met by Lascelle and Sarit Tillet, friends of Paco and always excited to see the "Mormons." When the late Elder Pinnock’s son was on his mission in Belize, the Tillet’s house was his center of activity . . . they had a telephone! We take another 45-minute drive to a small village called Orange Walk as we learn something about Belizeans. Just past Orange Walk we board a motorboat for a 35-Mile Ride up the New River to the Jungle Rivers of Lamanai. As you glide and careen along the jungle river, you can imagine what life is like in those areas. You will pass by a Mennonite Village on your way to Lamani. By the way, forget about your hair . . . hold on . . . stop . . . start . . . see that bump . . . its quiet . . . it’s a crocodile! You will hear birds and see exciting wildlife everywhere. Lunch is at the edge of the jungle at the riverside. After lunch, it’s a 45 minute round trip walk to a little ruin. The Local Mayans Are Rebuilding Their Ancient Temple with Vigor and Commitment. This is a great setting for reflecting on the beginning of the Land Bountiful.

The Three Stepped Temple and other artifacts date from 1500 BC-1500 AD. This area fits as the "East Wilderness" in the Book of Mormon. We will talk about very specific details, comparisons, placements of the altar, etc. that are similar to Israelite temples. The massive masks that are found here are being restored. After exploring the temple and the surrounding excavations, we have another fabulous River Cruise Back to Our Bus. The drive to the Mexican border takes about 45-minutes. When we arrive, we will pay departure fees of about $10.00 U.S. at the Belize border. With that receipt we board again and drive about a block length to the Mexican border. Once again, we will process entry documents. Everyone will fill out a page form as tourists and then we may simply drive into Mexico. However, we may have to take our bags off the bus, walk with them about 75-yards and have a customs examination or just a "wave by." Loading them back on begins another 20-minute drive to Puerto Maya , where we will relax at the Holiday Inn, Chetumal. Puerto Maya, a port city for cruise ships, is close to Cozumel. We will have a lovely dinner together and remind them that we must have breakfast at 6:30 A.M.
