DETAILED ITINERARY: Day 9 -
Thursday
At breakfast (what a buffet!) we are joined by Helaman Petlcalco, who will lead us to Chichen Itza. We will be the "first" to enter the park this morning, home of the feathered God, Quetzalcoatl, the Messiah. The feathers represent rays of light depicting God. Another common name for this God figure is Ku- Kul- Khan. Chichen Itza is home to the incredible Grand Mayan Observatory. If it wasnt so ancient, you would think it looks fairly modern. We know the peoples of the Book of Mormon had Knowledge of Astronomy (Alma 30:44). It speaks of wanting signs from heaven and asks, "will ye tempt God?" He set into motion the planets that move in regular form. The Mayans studied the Solar System. They knew things that modern society took much longer to discover and understand. In Helaman 12:15, we see that there was a working knowledge of astronomy among the Nephites and of course, later the Mayans. Helaman and Daniel will compare the layout of the Grand Temple at Chichen Itza with Solomons Temple . . . the central area and the Holy of Holies. As you climb to the top you can see where the "curtains" could have been hung. If you stay at the bottom, youll hear every words through your earphone as Daniel and Helaman chit chat back and forth. It is a real Joseph Judah bonding! From this vantage point you can See the Massive Highways that connected cities right through the jungle and recall the references in the Book of Mormon to highways. On another building you will see the Caricature of a Man Riding a Horse. Historians say there were no horses here, yet Lehi and his family brought them from Jerusalem. After a wonderful buffet lunch at the hotel, we are off to Cancun! The next two nights will be spent at the Cancun Hyatt Caribe with the Caribbean on One Side and a Lovely Lagoon on the Other Side. This is a wonderful hotel, quietly situated on the shore away from the worldly bustle of the Cancun Hotel strip. The Hyatt is a smaller, more private facility pleasantly situated between private villas on each side. It has class, panache and wonderful character you will appreciate. |
