Day
to Day Itinerary »
Day 1: This
afternoon we depart on our wonderful Fall Foliage Church History Tour. Fly out
of Salt Lake.
Day 2: Today
in New York City you will tour Times Square and the Statue of Liberty as
well as see the Jewish Synagogue where Daniel and his
father met the LDS Church. Hear their remarkable conversion stories. This evening,
if you would like, you will have time to take in
a Broadway show.
Day 3: Enjoy
the beautiful fall colors as we drive from New York through rural Massachusetts and Vermont.
This afternoon we will visit Church History
sites in and around Sharon, Vermont, such as the Joseph Smith Memorial. Joseph
Smith was born here December 23, 1805. A hundred years later, the LDS Church erected a 38.5-foot-high granite
monument to commemorate the 38.5 years of his life. A full-time missionary couple
living at the old Smith home will take us back to the time of Joseph's youth.
Day 4: Today
we continue our sightseeing of the beautiful fall foliage as we travel through
Vermont and upstate New York to Palmyra.
Day 5: A
full
day visiting Church History sites in Palmyra includes: The Joseph
Smith Sr. home, the Sacred Grove, the Hill Cumorah, the
Grandin Printing Complex (where the first Book of Mormon were printed) and the Peter Whitmer farm in
Fayette (where the Church was organized). We will also visit the Palmyra Temple.
Day 6: This
morning you may participate in all the Sabbath Meetings of the local Ward. The
remainder of the day will be a free day to enjoy the
majestic Niagara Falls. There will be plenty of free time to enjoy the falls on
your own. You may even want to ride on the Maid of the
Mist boat that takes you up to the base of the falls. Our hotel is located only one block from the falls.
Day 7: Today
we have a full day visiting the important sites around Kirtland - including the Kirtland Temple, the Newel K. Whitney Store (school
of the Prophets), the Morley Farm, the New LDS Visitor Center and more.
Day 8: This
morning we travel to Independence Missouri. The
saints went by wagon train, later, tours go by bus, but we are going by airplane.
There will time to visit Independence including the Independence Visitor Center and Temple Mount.
We will also visit the headquarters of Community of Christ Church (formerly
called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints). In the afternoon and evening and continuing into the next
day, we will l visit
Independence, Far West, Liberty Jail, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Hauns Mill and more.
Day 9: This afternoon we will
travel to Nauvoo to get an overview, tour various
recreated homes and shops and then we will enjoy a music/drama performance in a pioneer theater setting by the
missionary couples serving in Nauvoo.
Day 10: Today
we have a full day in Nauvoo. You
will have time for a Temple session in the New Nauvoo temple, if it is open for
sessions. You will have time
to see more restored buildings and Church History sites.
Day 11: We
will visit Carthage, where the Prophet and his brother were martyred. As you
walk into the upstairs jail room, you may feel the power and majesty of Joseph
and Hyrum sealing their testimonies with there blood. Many have felt the spirit
of Joseph Smith as they visited this sacred place. Returning to Nauvoo, you can walk the Trail of Tears where
the Saints crossed the Mississippi to head west. Next we will follow the trail
of the Saints west to Winter Quarters.
Day 12: On
our last day, we
will visit the Church History sites in Council Bluffs and Winter Quarters
including the LDS Temple. This afternoon - if there is time
we plan on visiting an Amish Community and tour an Amish farm. This evening we fly home.
