OF THE NILE
Thursday, Friday One of the "greatest experiences of your life" is commencing as you board your Flight to Europe, then connecting to the flight to Cairo. You'll meet the 'TRAVEL HOUSE OF EGYPT ' representative assisting you in transferring to a First Class hotel (or a Moderate Deluxe hotel). Saturday
Experiencing Cairo includes hearing about the Islamic religion in the ancient mosques, sensing the bustle of nearly 14-million people. Seeing the ageless pyramids along the Nile is like stepping into a time machine. Visiting the Citadel, The Mosque and Bazaar is mixing old and new. In the Bazaar you can begin practicing the ancient art of bargaining. In the afternoon, see the treasures of the Egyptian Museum and the fabulous King Tut's Tomb Exhibition . There is a chance of enjoying an optional Sound and Light Show at the Pyramids Sunday
After breakfast today you will leave the stately Cruise Liner for a flight to CAIRO. After landing, a drive brings you to Sakarra, about 22-miles south of Cairo. Some of the oldest pyramids and a complex burial site for more than twenty pharaohs are found here. Chamber wall hieroglyphs depicting the hereafter are stunning. Next, you will visit the newly opened Pyramid of Dahshour. After lunch, a short drive brings you to Giza. Here we marvel at the Pyramids, including Cheops, one of the seven wonders of the world. Coming face-to-face with the Sphinx , who has been staring into the desert for five-thousand years, is an awesome sight. Tonight we are staying at the Deluxe a First Class hotel (or a Moderate Deluxe hotel). Monday
Following an early morning flight to Luxor , you will board a beautiful Deluxe-Class Nile River Cruise Liner. Entering, something inside you awakens as you are conveyed in majestic splendor through a magical, mystical land! Your first 'On-Land' excursion is to the East Bank of the Nile, seeing two of Egypt's finest temples, Luxor And Karnak. Remember that the 4000-year-old Karnak was the seat of Amon-Re, the Imperial God. It may just take your breath away as you survey the temple structure which focuses on the awesome Hypostyle Hall. Luxor , sacred to Amon, is beautiful with its impressive statues of Ramses II. There you will be marveling at the inner sanctuary rebuilt by Alexander the Great. . . . better yet, recognizing familiar signs and symbols of temple worship which reveal the eternal nature of covenant making. Tuesday
This morning, crossing the Nile by ferry to the West Bank, begins with a lively visit to the necropolis of Thebes, burial ground of the great Pharaohs, and also the Colossi of Memnon. Pit "thirty-three" has us thinking of the discovery of scrolls that would be translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith, becoming part of the Pearl of Great Price. Today's highlight is visiting the fabulous Valley of The Kings, where, so far, sixty-four Pharaonic tombs have been discovered, including Tutankhamen's Tomb. Winding through tunnels and corridors, we discover the Tomb of Seti-I, an extraordinary underground complex with breathtaking paintings. Returning to the CRUISE LINER, we sail at noon to experience Esna and the sunken temple to the creator-god Khnum. Walking on shore, we sense that civilization has risen only slightly in the past thousands of years. Wednesday
Passing through the river locks of the Nile at Esna, you head for Edfu, where horse-drawn carriages will be taking you to the best pd temple in Egypt, the Temple of Horus, the falcon-headed god. A clearer comprehension of religious rituals emerges as you gain a better understanding of how temple worship must have been conducted in ancient Egypt. A noon sailing takes you to Komombo . Visiting the unique Greco-Roman temple, perched majestically along the Nile, we begin realizing that everything in the famous 'Double' temple is built in pairs, dedicated both to the crocodile-headed Sobek, god of Nile fertility, and Haroeris, the sun god. Thursday
Enjoying the leisurely sailing to ASWAN precedes the memorable visit of the Aswan Dam, situated on the Nile's first cataract. Seeing the Philae Temple is delightful. Then, memories of the Pharaoh's monuments return as you walk in Aswan's Pink Granite quarry. Recollections will return as you rediscover granite pillars as distant as ancient Caesarea in modern Israel. An afternoon of interest is in store as you visit the Elephantine Island and then continue by sailing in a traditional latten-rigged Nile Felucca, bringing you in and around the many surrounding islands. Stopping at the Botanical Gardens is like taking a walk in God's garden. The Agha Khan Mausoleum reminds us how man is still building magnificent buildings to worship God. Friday
